About Organic Herb Trading
The business was founded in 1982 by organic pioneer Mike Brook, originally under the name ‘Hambleden Herbs’ in the scenic village of Hambleden. Mike began by growing herbs in a field near his home, but as demand for organic herbs quickly outpaced supply, he began sourcing from international producers—many of whom we still work with today.
As the company expanded, Hambleden Herbs introduced its own line of pre-packed organic herbal teas and culinary spices—the first of their kind in the UK. To accommodate this growth, Mike and his family relocated to a farm in Somerset in the mid-1990s, which remains our home base. In 2000, the bulk trading arm was renamed The Organic Herb Trading Company, and the Hambleden Herbs retail brand was sold in 2004.
