About PT Sumatera Tropical Spices
PT Sumatera Tropical Spices embarked on its inaugural export venture in 1993, under the visionary leadership of its founder, Letjen (Purn) Bustanil Arifin. Born in Padang Panjang, West Sumatra, on October 10, 1925, Mr. Arifin was a distinguished Indonesian politician and a retired member of the Indonesian National Army. His illustrious career included roles as the Head of the Logistics Affairs Agency (Bulog) and the Minister of Cooperatives in the Development Cabinet V. Mr. Arifin completed his early education at HIS (1940) and MULO (1942) in Medan. His commitment to public service led to his appointment as the Indonesian Consul General in New York, USA, in 1972, prior to assuming leadership positions as the Minister of Cooperatives and the Head of the Logistics Affairs Agency. Under his astute leadership, Indonesia achieved self-sufficiency in food production, a remarkable accomplishment recognized and awarded by the FAO (World Food and Agriculture Organization) in 1985. Driven by his deep connection to West Sumatra, Mr. Arifin initiated the establishment of our company in his hometown. He began this endeavor by securing investments from American partner McCormick & Co., Incorporated, in addition to three other shareholders. Bustanil Arifin passed away on February 13, 2011, at the age of 85, at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, United States. His enduring legacy continues to inspire our commitment to excellence.
